    Praytana, the Centre for Child Development, has been instituted with only one aim- to offer proven, internationally acclaimed and effective palliative and curative therapies to children with developmental disadvantages such as Autism Spectrum Spectrum, motor skill deficiencies etc. Our director felt the need for such a centre in Kerala because of the absolute lack of reliable and medically sanctioned therapeutic care for kids in this region.

    Yes, Prayatna has secured operating license from Government of India’s Child Care wing. Further, our founder director Mr. Joseph Sunny holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, and Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (Pediatrics) from SRM Medical College, Chennai. He also possesses certificate in Sensory Integration Therapy from Sensory Integration International, University of Southern California, USA and in Methodologies of Teaching Principles of Handwriting Without Tears curriculum by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). He also had 15 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Therapy.

  • 5. How do you assess and establish the medical intervention of an afflicted child?

    We embrace standardized as well as non-standardized assessment tools to gauge the therapeutic needs of a child. We complement our understanding with insights garnered from interviewing the parents as well as empirical data available through clinical observations.     Autism or ASD simply put is when a child has trouble communicating his/her needs. They have trouble understanding and interpreting other’s thoughts, feelings and expressions. It has varying degrees of impairment. While there is no cure, with the help of therapists certain stereotypical behaviours can be reduced and to a certain extent the child can be a productive member of society.

    AADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is a common childhood condition that affects the way we think and act. Children with ADHD have trouble focusing and remembering things.They are also unable to sit still or be quiet. They can be overly active or impulsive. ADHD like Autism are varying in severity. Therapy and sometimes medication is needed to help these children.
